RUTHLESS TIMES - SONGS OF CARE

  • Trinity Rooms Field Road GL5 2HZ (map)

PLUS intro from the composer
We invite you to a thought-provoking screening of the darkly humorous Finnish documentary Ruthless Times - Songs of Care, exploring the state of public elderly care. Through interviews woven into choral songs, the film gives voice to overwhelmed care workers struggling to survive in a system where efficiency and profits eclipse compassion.

As robots replace nurses and staff are relegated to impersonal call centers, the film reveals the everyday ramifications of commoditised care. Caregivers’ candid stories, depicting despair and anger, are composed into lyrical testimonies exposing their precarity and the elderly’s neglect. Fearing job loss, the choir of anonymous voices sings their critique of a system that has forgotten its humanity.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with local care advocates exploring how we can challenge assumptions, rediscover compassion, and envision community-centered support in our own context. Join us for this musical revelation that sends a “warm greeting to the unsung heroes of the everyday” while issuing an urgent call for change. Through bearing witness, we take the first step toward building a society where care for our most vulnerable is held sacred once more.
