STOP MAKING SENSE

  • The Long Table Brimscombe Mills, Brimscombe Hill GL5 2QN (map)

THE GREATEST CONCERT FILM OF ALL TIME
Stop Making Sense brings to the screen Talking Heads at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983.

Shooting over three nights, Jonathan Demme and his crew captured the energy and eccentricity of Talking Heads’ precisely conceived and executed live show, with all its brilliance: the existential sight gag of Byrne swallowed up in his “Big Suit;” the gentle lyricism of Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love;” the mesmerizing, synchronized calisthenics of the band and its indefatigable backup singers. Renowned filmmaker Demme (Silence of the Lambs) captures the band at their exhilarating best, in this new and complete restoration for the film’s 40th anniversary.

The Long Table will be sporting an 80’s New York vibe for the evening, with a pay-as-you-can meal available 6-8pm followed by the concert screening from 8pm. There will be both seating and standing/dancing space available.

To paraphrase Byrne’s paranoid narrator in “Life During Wartime,” there’s no time for dancing like the present.
