A Sufi mystic predicts that a newborn boy, Muzamil, will die when he reaches the age of twenty. The child grows up like other children, but feels uneasy about his future. When he gets to know Suleiman, an outsider who owns a film projector and shows movies in his house, Muzail is introduced to hitherto unknown worlds and ideas, causing him to question his life-style and the prediction that hangs over him.
